Vision & Mission

 The Mission of the project is to have a "Connected Government" that would transform the way the Government interacts with its citizens.

The broad objectives of the Project are:

  • To create a plug-and-connect environment for all Government departments/ PSUs so as to provide bandwidth on demand.
  • To establish a highly reliable, robust and secure communication corridor
  • To provide reliable and secure backbone for network
  • To facilitate storage of data at site meant for Disaster recovery
  • To facilitate Governments to go for centralized architecture for their e-Government applications so as to decrease total cost of ownership.
  • To create single unified effective Intranet for the Government thereby facilitating effective communication and creating less paper environment.
  • To facilitate electronic delivery of Government services to citizen, Government to Businesses services.
  • To provide connectivity to all the e-Governance applications of the State.
  • To provide cheap & alternate means of communication during normal time and at the time of any kind of disaster.
  • To create video conferencing solutions for interaction of Government with Government functionaries during normal time and at the time of any kind of disaster.

KSWAN is expected to bridge the digital divide by having a connected environment, so that citizens from anywhere in Karnataka have access to Government services and information irrespective of geographical location. The project is also expected to bring efficiency & speed in communicating with intra-governmental transactions .

Vision

To establish a State Information Highway by setting up a single unified cost-effective, secure and reliable State Wide Area Network and Local Area Network so as to bring the advantages of a connected Government to its citizens regardless of their location in the state and to make the working of the Government more efficient and transparent.

Description

The Karnataka State Wide Area Network is in operation since Dec 2009. It is serving as a state information high way for various departments of Government of Karnataka, providing voice, video and data services.

The Karnataka State Wide Area Network 2.0 (KSWAN 2.0) aims to provide more reliable and secure network services to Government offices by providing WAN services using MPLS technology within the network and that of the bandwidth service provider and LAN services in important Government buildings.

The various Government offices at State, District and Taluk are connected on Horizontal level to respective KSWAN POPs. The KSWAN network extended to the various offices located below Taluk level in large numbers. Presently more than 4000 offices of nearly 75 Departments and boards and corporations including Chief Minister's Office, Governor's Office, High Court, Police, Judicial Courts & Prisons, Treasuries, Stamp & Registration, Bhoomi, Transport, Agriculture, Education, Health, Food & Civil Supplies, Municipal Administration, etc spread across the state of Karnataka have been brought under the umbrella of KSWAN for extending the citizen oriented services of Government.

KSWAN 1.0 COMMISSIONED IN 2009

Upgraded to KSWAN 2.0 on 01.08.2017

Achievements

Smooth migration from KSWAN 1.0 to KSWAN 2.0 solution during January & February 2019 without any service disruption.

Video Conference Service extended up to Tahsildhar office level and Secondary Studio Creation at DC offices.

KSWAN connectivity is extended to newly created Talukas.

Softwarebased VC is implemented for 1000Gram Panchayats.
